Description

A pressure shaft sealing ring (oil seal) with a BABSL profile and dimensions of 35x45x7/7,5 mm, made by SOG. The product features a design adapted for operation under increased pressure of the sealed medium (up to 10 bar). Seal profile design The BABSL profile is a radial seal with an outer elastomer jacket, which provides optimal static sealing in the mounting housing, also in the case of rough housings or housings subject to thermal expansion. The design includes a metal stiffening insert completely covered with rubber, which prevents corrosion of the body. The profile is fitted with a special shortened and stiffened sealing lip pressed by an integrated tension spring. This lip geometry minimises the risk of it rolling over or deforming under the pressure of the medium. An additional dust lip forms a barrier protecting the main sealing edge from external contaminants such as dust, dirt or fine solid particles. Material and resistance The seal is made of fluoro rubber (FPM/FKM). This material has very good thermal stability and resistance to mineral and synthetic oils, greases, fuels, as well as many chemicals and weather conditions (including ozone and UV radiation). Technical and dimensional data Inner diameter (d): 35 mm Outer diameter (D): 45 mm Height / body thickness (H): 7 mm Overall height with dust lip: 7,5 mm Profile: BABSL (pressure, with dust lip) Material: FPM (Fluoro elastomer) Maximum working pressure: 10 bar Product code: 117189V Brand: SOG SKU: 15377

Material

FPM / FKM (fluoroelastomer, Viton®)

  • Operating temperature-20 °C to +200 °C

Good for high temperature, all fuels and oils, ozone and sunlight. Not for brake fluid, acetone-type solvents, ammonia, hot steam or severe cold.

Chemical resistance
Can be usedDo not use
High temperatures, continuously up to +200 °CAcetone, MEK, dioxane, ethyl acetate and similar solvents
Mineral and synthetic oils, incl. engine oil and oils with aggressive additivesBrake fluid (DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5.1): the ring swells
Benzene, toluene, xylene, trichloroethylene (aromatic and chlorinated solvents)Ammonia, amines and alkaline liquids: the rubber breaks down
All fuels: petrol also with bioethanol (E10, E85), diesel, biodiesel, aviation petrolSteam and hot water above +120 to +130 °C
Fire-resistant hydraulic fluid HFD-R (phosphate esters)Formic acid and strong acetic acid (low-molecular organic acids)
Ozone, UV and sunlight (hardly any ageing)Severe cold below -20 °C with standard FPM: it hardens and leaks
Deep vacuum (very little outgassing)Hot fluorine gas and hydrofluoric acid (HF)

Safety: if the seal is heated above +300 °C (fire, gas torch), FPM releases toxic hydrogen fluoride. Do not touch the burnt residue with bare hands: it forms hydrofluoric acid and causes chemical burns.
