Goetze type 76.97H sliding seal is a mechanical face seal used in drive systems and gearboxes of machines working in harsh operating conditions. The seal is built on two metal sealing rings working with elastomer elements, which provide the right axial pressure and tightness of the system. Sliding seals of this type are used in gearboxes, drive axles, construction and agricultural machines and power transmission systems. Their task is to protect the mechanical parts against contaminants such as dust, sand, mud or small stones, and to keep the lubricant inside the system. Type 76.97H uses a design with metal rings and elastomer O-ring type rings. The elastomer element creates the axial pressure on the sealing faces and seals statically between the ring and its seat. In operation, the relative motion takes place between the sliding faces of the metal rings. In practice the seal works in oil or grease. A thin lubricating film between the working faces reduces friction and carries away the heat generated in operation.
